Wallpaper Tray Dyeing

Wallpaper trays are great to use for dyeing long pieces of fabric --I used two recently to dye several eight-yard pieces. Just scrunch it as tightly as you can.

Here I'm using mostly reds, yellows and oranges with a few other colors thrown in every once in a while.

I soak the fabric in hot water for 15 minutes before I scrunch it as tightly as possible in the tray.
Then I pour dye in various places in the tray until no white is showing and

wait 10 or 15 minutes and then pour soda ash solution over all the fabric.

After 30 minutes or so I pour off all the excess dye and leave it alone for several more hours before washing it out.

Earlier this week I did an eight-yard piece in neutral colors and one in greens in wallpaper trays.
