I have been resisting smartphones forever, thinking my plain jane cell phone was all I needed. Afterall, I don't get that many calls anyway. I'm happy to announce that I have converted and now am the proud owner of a new Iphone.
I can thank technology and scarves for the change in heart. I've been taking credit cards for a number of years via an on-line company called Propay. First I started using the old-fashioned "knuckle-buster" imprinter; then I graduated to a card reader I could attach to my netbook and get real-time authorization.
The downside to that was that in hotel ball rooms I often got less than satisfactory reception even with my own broadband modem attached to the netbook. So, invariably I spent most of the time with the imprinter again.
Now ProPay is just one of a number of companies that allow you to attach a reader to your smartphone and swipe the card in real-time anywhere you have cell phone coverage.
So I took the plunge and I now have a cell phone where I can not only get calls but also email, search the internet and swipe credit cards. What more do I need?
