The Ipu

The Ipu (or gourd) is often found in Hawaiian quilts like this one done by Jackie Howes.

Jackie is part of the Monday quilting group. Her work is excellent and she is always willing to help others learn her techniques.  This particular quilt is a small wall hanging but Jackie also does everything from pillows to bed-size Hawaiian quilts.

And as you can see from this photo, her stitches are tiny and even. Two goals of all hand quilters.  In this quilt Jackie used a printed fabric on a solid background. Not traditional but striking just the same.
