Taking Another Direction
I've started making a new line of scarves based on the Japanese technique called Shibori. This process involves folding and clamping or wrapping your fabric before dyeing to create a pattern. The dye resists the folded or clamped areas and a pattern results.
I've been concentrating on Arashi Shibori, which is the technique that involves wrapping your fabric around a pole, tyeing it periodically with string or rubber bands and then compressing the fabric to make a striped pattern.
The photo shows one of the recent silk chameuse scarves I pole wrapped. In this case, I wrapped and compressed half the scarf and left the other half alone. As you can see, this give you a great two-tone look.
